Ali Benflis, former Algerian presidential candidate,  holds congress of newly formed party Vanguard of Freedoms. There has been a power crisis since President Bouteflika’s ill health forced him to withdraw from rule. France’s President Hollande makes state visit to Algeria to discuss terrorism and trade. Lack of infrastructure and substantially developed ports are part of the reason multinational corporations are looking elsewhere to invest. Algeria is set to become major European gas exporter as France, Spain and Portugal sign a political agreement to allow Algerian gas exporters access to European markets. Algeria plans to diversify economy through goods-producing industry and small to medium enterprises. China signs deal with Algeria regarding social security, labour and employment. Ethnic violence persists in the south of the country during battles between Berbers and Arabs.
