President Rouhani of Iran, sent a letter to the Emir of Kuwait this month. Although the contents have not been revealed, it is thought that the letter represents another step in Kuwait’s efforts to reduce the tensions between Iran and the Gulf states, particularly Saudi Arabia. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states are reportedly pressing to have a free trade ready to sign with the United Kingdom once it leaves the European Union (EU). New Zealand has renewed efforts to revive a free trade deal with the Gulf Cooperation Council which stalled in 2009. Passengers on direct US bound flights departing from Kuwait International Airport Kuwait will be subject to the US ban on electronics larger than cell phones being carried in hand luggage. Kuwait has signalled its willingness to see the cuts in oil production under the 2016 Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) agreement continue after the agreement’s six month term expires. The US is expected to deploy 2,500 combat ground troops to a staging base in Kuwait in preparation for possibly deployment in Iraq and/or Syria. Kuwait had a very successful debut government bond auction in March.
