Rescue workers recovered 35 bodies from a coal mine in northern Iran after an explosion led to the collapse of a tunnel. Hassan Rouhani was re-elected in Iran’s presidential election, garnering 57 per cent of the vote. Iran sanctioned nine U.S. linked businesses and organisations in response to American sanctions over Iran’s ballistic missile program. The head of Iran's armed forces, Major-General Mohammad Baqeri, declared that Iran will attack areas sheltering terrorists in Pakistan unless it tightens control over its borders and prevents insurgent cross-border attacks. According to US defence officials, Iran failed in its attempt to launch a cruise missile from an Iranian Yono- class “midget” submarine in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has built a third underground ballistic missile production factory and will continue production of its missile program, according to a senior commander of the Revolutionary Guard. The US administration confirmed that it will continue to waive certain sanctions against Iran, as required under the 2015 Nuclear Deal. The first four ATR 72-600s were handed over to Iran Air in a ceremony on 15 May. On 24 May, Iran signed a deal worth $615 million with a Spanish-Iranian under which the group will provide pipes for use in Iran's oil industry. Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh stated that Iran sees $55 per barrel as an appropriate price for crude oil.
