PASSENGER PLANE IN DRONE ‘NEAR-MISS’ / by Alistair Galloway

The UK Department of Transport is consulting on drone safety improvements and legislators are seeking mandatory registration for new drones, in response to a passenger plane’s ‘near-miss’ with a large drone at 10,000ft, while approaching Heathrow airport. Currently, comparable drones are not permitted to fly around airports, or more specifically higher than 400ft. The pilots had little time to react, and classified the incident as a serious offense to aircraft safety.
