“SWEDISH FOREIGN FIGHTERS IN SYRIA AND IRAQ” / by Alistair Galloway

The conflict in Syria and Iraq has caused an increase of individuals from Sweden moving to join terrorist groups. Linus Gustafsson and Magnus Ranstorp published a unique report on 267 individuals (from the approximated 300 total individuals from Sweden that travelled to Syria and Iraq to join terrorist groups) to examine variables and statistical data, such as gender, county of origin, and duration of term in the conflict region. The report utilizes declassified data provided by the Swedish Security Service and was a project at the Centre for Asymmetric Threat Studies (CATS) at the Swedish Defence University.
